Grumbling about the climate

Almost everyone knows that Canada is a country with a fairly harsh climate. In fact, only a relatively small part of the country on the southern west coast is home to this dance.

It takes quite a bit of adaptability to deal with severe cold and heavy snowfall. What comes with this, and many people often do not really know this in advance, is a sometimes stifling summer with temperatures that make the use of extensive air conditioning a given.

In gigantic Canada you can eventually experience everything: enormous drought, high humidity, excessive precipitation, strong wind - almost all weather extremes are known in Canada.

Not everyone can really get used to that.

Je moet best taai zijn om je aan het Canadese klimaat te kunnen aanpassen.

Everything is possible in the end, even the most aggressive weather you may be able to adapt to.

Even with heavy snowfall, life goes on. The snow plow makes short work of the misery. Cars with snow tires adjust their driving speed. It takes some getting used to, but it will work out eventually.

What is less pleasant is that the power often goes out during extreme weather conditions. If the water supply also stops working and the telephone no longer works, then it becomes quite annoying.

A frequently heard complaint is that the country is not sufficiently adapting to climate changes. It is as if people keep chasing the facts.

Every now and then it rains too much and then many floods occur because the facilities are inadequate.

However, it also happens that it does not rain for a long time and then all reservoirs dry up. Maybe there is enough water in Canada, but it is not in the right place. Almost nothing is done about these types of problems. If anything is done, it is only done once the suffering has long since passed.

Other natural problems are frequent forest fires and insect plagues. Little is done to prevent this. A lot of erosion is taking place along the coasts - but nothing is actually being done about that either.

Adapt to the climate

You can partly adapt to the climate, if you want. The government can also respond to this, but that only happens rarely in Canada because it costs money.

The infrastructure that could deal with the prevailing climate is lacking. People are certainly not preparing for the coming possible climate change. We'll see then!
