Why is infrastructure so bad in Canada?

Almost everyone quickly notices that the infrastructure is so poor and rickety in Canada.

This certainly applies to the roads, which are often of an old-fashioned design and are usually full of potholes.

But it also applies to the power supply, which keeps failing because a tree has fallen on an overhead line somewhere.

The drinking water supply is also below standard. There are often water shortages and then rationing follows - but even the water quality leaves much to be desired. And the pipes, they keep breaking because they are so old and rotten.

It's really strange that even mobile telephony is so rickety. That is modern technology - but it is also underpowered and unavailable in large parts of the country. Often not even in the suburbs or quite close to the big cities.

Many hospitals and government buildings are also in poor condition.

For Canadians it is actually the most normal thing in the world that buildings, roads and other facilities are used up until they become obsolete.

In general, people do not really think it is necessary to improve things until there is really no way around it.

This means that maintenance schedules are continuously behind, which leads to many additional problems in daily use.

Ordinary maintenance is often announced as an improvement project, while it is not at all.

It costs money to bury the power lines. And it also costs a lot of money to keep the water pipes up to date.

That's basically what it comes down to. People simply don't feel like investing in things that they can only use later.

The entire political system revolves around the successes that can be enjoyed immediately. This is reflected in the rickety infrastructure.

Because everything is always done as cheaply as possible, long-lasting quality is hard to find. No wonder that everything breaks, over and over again.
