This doesn't make you feel well

Obesity is rampant in Canada, that much will quickly become clear. It's almost as bad as in the United States—also a country known for this.

You can reasonably assume that this is mainly due to poor eating habits and insufficient exercise.

Many people in Canada pretend no one cares about the unhealthy lifestyles they lead. Oh well, that's just the way it is. But there are also many people who are constantly fighting against it. The gyms and diet clubs are working overtime, and they've been for a long time.

The unhealthy lifestyle has an impact on healthcare, which is now under an extra heavy burden.

Canadezen eten vaak te veel en ongezond en hebben soms niet genoeg lichaamsbeweging.

But why such a poor diet? And why so little exercise?

In most Canadian supermarkets you can stock up on salty snacks, sugary drinks, cookies and other unhealthy stuff.

However, if you're looking for fresh fruit, vegetables, or even good bread, things get tough. What you find is often wilted and expensive, but it's also often simply unavailable.

When you're dining out or visiting people, it's often the same. Fried food is in high demand. But if you're looking for something truly healthy, it can be difficult and, strangely enough, often more expensive.

You will also notice that the portions are usually absurdly large.

Very few Canadians participate in sports. There are few facilities such as swimming pools and sports fields.

Most Canadians avoid daily exercise as much as possible. The car culture probably has something to do with it. Everyone drives to their destination. Walking is often impossible. And cycling is often a risky undertaking.

It's contagious to avoid exercise. If everyone around you were active, wouldn't you become more active yourself?

Doing healthy, in Canada

Of course, it is quite possible to live a much healthier life in Canada, but that can quickly become expensive.

Canadians know all too well that convenience is good for people. And few are truly concerned that this leads to a sedentary lifestyle with little exercise.

Unfortunately, many Canadians have few choices when it comes to their transportation methods. Cars are usually the only way to get around.
